Throughout the year, our Editors may issue a Call for Papers for a special collection of articles for a themed issue or themed section of the journal. Below you’ll find links to the current Call for Papers for Value in Health.
Call for Papers:
Health Equity: Methods and Measures for Equity Informative Evaluations
The topic of “health equity” and methods to incorporate measures such as inequality aversion parameters into equity informative evaluations have been a major focus in the field of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR). Health equity considerations include the notions of equal access to health technologies and services and fair resource allocation. The focus on health equity and healthcare efficiency has gained importance around the world with progress towards or sustained delivery of universal health coverage in the presence of increasing health technology costs that risk exacerbating health disparities.
In response to this increased interest, the Editors are distributing a Call for Abstracts for research that describes methods and measures for equity informative evaluations. Recognizing that there is a growing number of research projects currently under development, we invite the global HEOR community to contribute to this issue with new HEOR and health policy methods, empirical research articles that examine the impact of interventions on health equity, and systematic or scoping reviews. All interested authors are invited to submit an abstract for consideration in this themed section no later than February 1, 2025. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words and should be submitted to our online portal at https://vihabstracts2.secure-platform.com/a. Authors whose abstracts best fit the scope, vision, and goals of this initiative will be invited to submit full papers for consideration in this themed section. Invited papers will be due no later than July 1, 2025. If invited to submit for this theme, please be sure to indicate in your cover letter that your paper is to be considered as part of the Health Equity theme.
Measuring Change in Rare Disease Outcomes: Implications From Patient-Focused Drug Development Guidance
Interpreting within-subject meaningful change in rare disease outcomes requires innovative qualitative and quantitative mixed methodological approaches due to heterogeneity among patients and limited same size. This themed section will focus on innovative methodologies and research designs focused on evaluation of meaningful change in rare disease, specifically considering the Patient Focused Drug Development guidance and the 2009 FDA Guidance for Industry Patient Reported Outcomes.
The Editors are looking for submissions that present multiple research designs (ie, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods analytic techniques) with accompanying data visualization approaches for deriving, analyzing, and communicating meaningful change in rare disease with a focus on alignment with regulatory Patient Focused Drug Development guidance.
Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal's online submission system at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/valueinhealth before April 30, 2025. Also, be sure to indicate in your cover letter that the paper is to be considered as part of the Measuring Change in Rare Disease Outcomes theme.
